Tiverton Parkway sits beside junction 27 of the M5, at the far end of the A361 from Barnstaple. It is on the main line, with direct trains to London Paddington and services north to Bristol and beyond, and for much of North Devon it is quicker to reach than Exeter.
The road there is the North Devon Link Road almost all the way, which makes it one of the more predictable journeys we do: around fifty minutes, without the city traffic of Exeter at either end. There is no rail link from Barnstaple to Tiverton Parkway without going through Exeter, so a car is the direct way.
Why Tiverton Parkway rather than Exeter
For a London train, Tiverton Parkway is often the better choice from North Devon. The A361 runs straight to it, there is no Exeter traffic to get through, and you avoid both the Tarka Line and the change of trains.
If you are not sure which station suits your train, give us the departure time and destination when you call. We will tell you honestly which is the quicker and cheaper run from your address.
Leaving the car at home
Many people drive themselves to Tiverton Parkway and pay to leave the car for the length of the trip. For a few days away, a taxi each way is often comparable, and you do not have to drive the A361 tired at the end of a long journey home.
We can book both legs together, with the return matched to your arrival time.
Arrivals and the last train
Tiverton Parkway is a quiet station late in the evening, and there is rarely a taxi waiting on spec. Book the return with your train details and the car will be there when you arrive.
If your train is running late, let us know or give us the service, and we will adjust rather than leave. Delays on the main line are common enough that we plan for them.
Picking up along the A361
The A361 passes South Molton on the way, and we regularly collect from there and the villages around it as well as from Barnstaple, Braunton and Chivenor. Tell us your pickup address and we will quote for the journey from your door.
For groups or families with luggage, an 8 seater makes the run in one vehicle, which usually costs less than two cars or two lots of parking.
