Combe Martin has one of the longest village streets in the country, running the best part of two miles from the beach up the valley towards the Exmoor edge. That matters when you book a taxi here: "Combe Martin" is not a pickup point, and giving us a house name or a landmark saves the driver a slow crawl along the whole of it looking for you.
We cover the seafront and harbour end, the length of the main street, and the lanes climbing out towards Berrynarbor and the moor. The A399 to Barnstaple is a winding coast road rather than a fast link, so we allow around thirty minutes and rather more when the summer traffic is queueing.

The A399 and why it takes longer than it looks
Fifteen miles to Barnstaple sounds like twenty minutes, and it is not. The A399 climbs and twists through the coast, and in July and August it carries holiday traffic at well below the speed limit for long stretches.
We build that into the time we quote rather than promising a pickup we cannot make. If you have a train or a flight to catch, tell us the departure time and we will set the pickup from it, which in high summer can mean leaving noticeably earlier than you would expect.
Holiday parks, the beach and the wildlife park
A lot of our Combe Martin work is visitors: the holiday parks up the valley, the beach and harbour, and the Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park. Visitors are also the people most likely to be stuck, because the last bus is earlier than most expect and the walk back up the valley is a long one in the dark.
For a group with luggage arriving at Barnstaple station and heading for a caravan or cottage here, an 8 seater is usually the sensible booking — say how many bags you have and we will send the right vehicle.
Berrynarbor, Hele and the moor edge
We cover Berrynarbor, Hele Bay, Watermouth and the scattered addresses on the lanes above the village. These are narrow, unlit roads where a satnav is not always right, so a landmark or what3words reference is worth including when you book.
Ilfracombe is only a few minutes further along the coast, and journeys between Combe Martin and Ilfracombe — for work, hospital appointments or an evening out — are regular bookings for us.
