Woolacombe is a three-mile beach with a small village attached, and almost everything about taxi work here follows from that. In summer the village is full, the car parks fill by mid-morning and the roads in are slow; in winter it is quiet and the bus service thins out to almost nothing. Both are reasons people call us.
We cover the seafront and Esplanade, the streets climbing steeply behind them, Mortehoe up on the headland, and Putsborough at the far southern end of the sands. Surfboards, wetsuits and sandy dogs are all normal cargo — say what you are bringing when you book and we will send something that fits it.

Getting to and from the beach
The drive from Barnstaple takes around thirty minutes through Braunton and over Mullacott Cross. The bottleneck is Braunton in high season, where the traffic through the village can be at a standstill on a hot Saturday, so a beach day booked for late morning wants a generous margin.
Parking is the other reason people leave the car behind. Both main car parks are full early in August, and a taxi in and out is often less hassle and not much more expensive than circling for a space.
Surfers, boards and wetsuits
We carry boards regularly, but they need the right vehicle — an estate or an 8 seater, not a saloon. Tell us how many boards and how long they are when you book rather than at the kerb, and we will send something appropriate.
Wet gear is not a problem either. It helps if wetsuits go in a bag rather than straight onto the seats, and drivers generally have a cover for the boot.
Mortehoe, Putsborough and the holiday parks
Mortehoe sits above the village and the walk up is steeper than it looks on a map, which is why we do a lot of short runs between the two, particularly after an evening at the pub. Putsborough is at the other end of the sands and much less well served by buses.
The holiday parks around Woolacombe generate steady airport and station work at changeover: families arriving at Barnstaple station with a week's luggage, or leaving for an early flight. Those are worth booking well ahead, as Friday and Saturday changeover days are our busiest.
